Zines

Various. 2019 - present.

I don’t think there’s anything quite like the feeling of holding a small book in your hands, made just for you. Browse some of my zines below and check out my shop to see what’s on sale.

FLOOD: Print Propaganda in Practice

2023, in collaboration with Sheyam Ghieth and Entangled Roots Press

FLOOD is a resource for aspiring propagandists. The zine contains a series of short essays organized around three central themes: WORDS, IMAGES, and DISSEMINATION. When unfolded, the zine includes an interior poster that invites readers to write, draw, and consider: “How will you flood empires? How will you germinate seeds of liberation?” Part of a larger project, see more here.

Covid is a Labor Issue

2023.

A quarter-page zine on the intersections of Covid and labor. By the time you’re done reading, you should have a little more insight into why you should wear a mask at work & on the picket line! A collaboration with the incredible Sheyam Ghieth, who illustrated and co-created this project into life with me.

Canned Goods

2023

An 18-page ode to good label design. All of the illustrations are reproductions of to-scale papercuts loosely based on real-life packaging design. Canned Goods is an extension of an ongoing design/observation practice I’ve been at for years now. It’s a project that’s given me lots of joy in the way that only a good label can bring me.

Making A Book Is Harder Than It Looks

2023.

A palm-sized zine for your troubles. But really, if you’ve ever made a book before, you know that behind every sheet of crisply printed paper is a million crumbled misprints. Getting discouraged is part of the process! Making books is for everyone! Digitally-illustrated risograph prints on pink paper.

To get a peek at the zine and try your own hand at comics-drawing, download a free printable sample page here. If you draw something you think is share-worthy, I’d love to see it — send me an email or tag me on Instagram!

Drawing Towards Our Autonomy: Trans Healthcare in Words and Pictures

2023

A 16-page, half-letter workbook I created as part of a workshop I led at Portland’s Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) in April 2023 to celebrate the launch of their OHSU Health Zine Collection.

Drawing Towards Our Autonomy is filled with sweet, thoughtful, and personal comics-drawing prompts with titles that include The Waiting Room, Reimagined and If We Wrote The Headlines. Over the course of eight prompts, trans folks get the chance to reclaim our autonomy at the intersection of words and pictures. No artistic experience required!

Moments of Falling in Love

2022.

An eight-page illustrated record of falling in love. Each interior page contains a line of text I wrote in my journal from 2021-2022. Each journal entry is paired with a papercut and colored pencil illustration. The memories are short and sweet, sometimes ordinary, sometimes not. Pocket-sized queer love.

Farewell

2019

Farewell is a four-page papercut zine that illustrates a simple line of text: Farewell is not the same thing as goodbye. It’s about leaving behind places I’ve loved, with the intention of returning — and continuing to love those places across distance. I made this work when I moved away from a beloved 500-person rural community in central California where I lived and worked from 2018-2019.
