I’m a Portland-based artist, educator, and trans Sephardi insomniac.

My creative work is journalistic and playful, telling visual stories with cutting optimism and punch-up snark. I make images, zines, posters, and essays that share hidden information and offer political education for our movements.

My practice is multi-disciplinary. I make things I believe in.

In June 2022, I published my debut book, I’m Having Top Surgery: An Illustrated Guide For You and Me, a 98-page risograph-printed publication that interrupts the sterile, dehumanizing realm of the operating room to offer a meditation on the political dimensions of medical gatekeeping and trans liberation.

I’ve facilitated residencies and programming for a thrift-store-turned-art-museum, co-organized a socially engaged arts conference at a major US museum, developed a community-centered artist fellowship program in rural central California, taught art and design students at universities including USC and Iowa State, and read applications for a nationally-renowned writer’s workshop. I’ve given talks at Sexual/Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC), Whitman College, Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC), Sonoma County Library, and Portland State University's Trans Action and Care Conference. During the school year, I work across the city with Portland’s K-12 students.

As a freelancer, I create stunning graphics and sharp copy for musicians, organizations, and emerging businesses in the Portland area and beyond. Most recently, I served as Creative Director for Bridge City Media, a Portland-based brand agency and certified B Corp.

Find me marveling over street sign design, cutting paper into shapes, and writing letters to my grandmother.

I live and work in so-called Portland, OR, where I was born and raised. I’m a queer and trans, neurodivergent and antizionist mixed Ashkenazi-Sephardi Jew of color with light skin. I wear a mask in all public space (yes, still) and I believe deeply in pandemic justice for our Long Future. My work can be found in doctor’s offices, classrooms, zine libraries, and a bookshelf near you. Learn more at @rimo_skyo.
