I’m a writer, designer, and cultural worker.

Over the past decade, my work has spanned the fields of design, branding, publishing, arts administration, and education.

Currently, I work as a media arts educator for Everyone On, where I support teens to build career-ready skills in graphic design, videography, and photography. I also teach zine and printmaking classes for youth and adults at the IPRC, Portland’s beloved community arts space.

Most recently, I served as Creative Director for the Portland-based brand agency Bridge City Media, where I spearheaded brand strategies for mid-size businesses and organizations across the region. Blending my skills as a designer, copywriter, and strategist, I created campaigns, commercials, documentaries, and brand identities that led with honesty, backed by the agency’s B Corp certification.

I run my own independent press, where I write, design, illustrate, and publish zines, posters, and essays that share hidden information and offer political education for our movements. My publications are journalistic and playful, telling visual stories with cutting optimism and punch-up snark. My creative work has been recognized with funding awards by Regional Arts and Culture Council, Common Field, and Signal Fire Arts.

Some of my selected publications include my 2022 full-length book, I’m Having Top Surgery: An Illustrated Guide for You and Me, which has been heralded by trans people, educators, therapists, and medical professionals as a go-to educational resource on top surgery and the political dimensions of trans healthcare. In 2023 and 2024, I published Covid is a Labor Issue and MASK UP, WE NEED YOU: Palestinian Solidarity, Covid-19, and the Struggle for Liberation in collaboration with the incredibly talented artist Sheyam Ghieth. Our zines have been downloaded and printed by thousands of readers across the globe.

Previously, I’ve worked with Blue Sky Center, Tin House, Elsewhere Museum, Open Engagement, and the Queens Museum. I’ve given talks at institutions including Sexual/Gender Minority Youth Resource Center, Sonoma County Library, Whitman College, and Portland State University. And I’ve taught university-level courses for undergraduate and graduate design students at institutions including Iowa State, Dominican University, and USC

I live and work in so-called Portland, OR, where I was born and raised. You can find me marveling over street sign design, cutting paper into shapes, and writing letters to my grandmother. I am a queer and trans, neurodivergent and antizionist mixed Ashkenazi-Sephardi Jew of color with light skin. I wear a mask in all public spaces (yes, still) and believe deeply in pandemic justice for our Long Future. My work can be found in doctor’s offices, classrooms, zine libraries, and a bookshelf near you. Learn more at @rimo_skyo.
